HEARING TESTS

We assess hearing status by:

• Otoscopic examination

• Pure tone audiometry

• Impedance audiometry

• Speech audiometry

• Otoacoustic emission testing

• Special tests

P T A

Pure Tone Audiometry

Pure Tone Audiometry is one of the basic hearing tests used to identify the hearing ability of an individual. It helps us in determining the degree, type and configuration of a hearing loss. The patient is asked to respond to the pure tone stimuli presented at different frequencies through headphones and bone vibrator. Both Air conduction & bone conduction thresholds are detected by this test and the test results are plotted on an audiogram.

Immittance Audiometry

Immittance audiometry is a test of the middle ear. It is a very quick, simple, reliable and relatively objective method for determining middle-ear function and status, detecting the presence of middle ear fluid or eardrum perforation, etc.

SAT

Speech Audiometry Test

Speech Audiometry is a test used to determine the speech understanding ability of an individual. It determines the threshold (lowest level) at which speech is audible and intelligible.

OAE

OtoAcoustic Emissions test

OAEs are a test of the inner ear. Oto acoustic emission test helps to assess the functioning of the hair cells in the cochlea. OAE test is a simple, quick, and non-invasive test, for detecting hearing problems in new-born babies, children who are too young to cooperate, or in difficult-to-test populations.
